One of the drawbacks of HTTP was the fact that data could be stolen during the transfer process. To make the information secure, the HTTPS protocol came into being. HTTPS creates a secure encrypted transfer of information from the server to the browser. Https was created by Netscape Communications in 1994 as an advanced and more secure protocol.

Hence the basic difference between the two is the SSL certificate. The absence of data encryption in HTTP means the information can be altered and intercepted incorrectly rendering the purpose of communication futile. Important and sensitive information such as bank details, credit card information, user names, and passwords are transferred as plain text unless the website is using HTTPS. To prevent theft and fraud, a more secure transfer of information was needed to make the internet a safe mode of communication. That was provided by HTTPS. Otherwise, financial transactions, transfer of strategic information, and other tasks such as filling up forms would not have been possible on the internet.

Now that the difference between HTTP and HTTPS is clear, it is obvious that HTTPS has a greater edge over HTTP. HTTPS makes the information secure, protecting the users against potential misuse of information. This is why when a website shifts from HTTP to HTTPS its ranking improves. Hence, HTTPS helps in SEO implementation as well. People also prefer using HTTPS-enabled websites as they feel secure. Https also enables better Google Analytics. It is because when you use HTTPS the security information of the websites that referred yours is saved, unlike HTTP websites. This also adds to the successful implementation of an all-around SEO strategy.

Users also prefer HTTPS websites. People engage in a lot of activities on the internet, such as shopping, banking, entertainment, and even education. Virtual learning is the new normal. The cost of not doing so is huge as you may damage your reputation and credibility in the eyes of users. Moreover, insufficient security may even lead the user to lose money or critical information.
